This week, I crafted the perfect break-up text. It’s composed on my Notes app with all the empathy and bitterness I could muster, titled “To: The Sun.” I’m reluctant to send it, but I know I’m going to have to do it soon. Trader Joe’s is on crack mode with the PSL-flavored frozen section and the streets are filled with Halloween motifs. It’s the ritualistic signal indicating fall is here. And so are fall trends, with fall shoe trends catching my eye left and right. Suddenly, every outfit is now unofficially styled with chunky loafers or quirky clogs.
If you’re anything like me, you need time to adapt, so I’m borrowing a few of my favorite summer trends and integrating them into my fall uniform. My square-toe heels are making way for square-toe loafers; I took my cues from Bella Hadid and every menswear runway out there.
Another trending silhouette is the omnipresent clog, with many channeling the quintessential transitional material for shoes: shearling (possibly signaled by Gabriela Hearst’s Fall 2021 collection). Nothing says fall like clip-clopping in *warm* wooden clogs, am I right?
Obviously, we’re also keeping sneakers and boots in rotation. This fall, the mainstays in our wardrobes will be dolled up in pastels and embellished details. Yes, pastels are making a surprising comeback! Acne Studios‘ winter collection was a watercolor Pinterest board, while Fendi interspersed muted pink metallics within the otherwise neutral looks.
Now that we’ve got you (and me) excited for fall, a shopping list is in order. Check out our favorites for trendy fall footwear below.

Chunky clogs are the moment and these shearling picks are the perfect transitional pieces to keep you warm and trendy. Whether you opt for a more timeless wooden clog or something new like a colorful rubber, there’s no wrong way to try the look.

You can wear these fuzzy clogs to get groceries, but the gold horse buckle also means you can pair them with a dinner party outfit.

If you were in on the Crocs trend this summer, you’ll probably love this pair of versatile rubber clogs from Coach.
It’s all about the details for this season’s boot aesthetics. From metallics to embroidery, integrate bold boots into your fall wardrobe and never reach for a plain black suede bootie again. We promise!

This Sam Edelman boot is the main character in any outfit, especially paired with a monochrome neutral ensemble.

We imagine Megan Fox or Kourtney Kardashian would don these bold Jeffrey Campbell studded boots in black.
Loafers are back, baby! Whether you style them casually or dress them up for work, a square-toe loafer suits every vibe in the book, from preppy to goth to corporate chic.

This pair from Vagabond Shoemakers leans into menswear-inspired details and a croc-embossed leather. Plus, Kendall Jenner was just spotted in a pair of their loafers, so you know they’re good.

Miista’s penny loafers are the basics your wardrobe needs, but with a modern edge. Style them with flared pants and a leather bag to match.
We’d like to argue that pastels for fall are groundbreaking. Trade in your white sneakers for pastel ones that fold perfectly into neutral camel coats and a pair of jeans.

Speckled rainbow colors are accompanied by blurred pastel shades on these Steve Madden kicks that go with literally everything.

These New Balance sneakers combine the everyday silhouette with suede details that add just the right pastel pop to any look.
