Less than two weeks after the release of her hit new song, “Hello,” Adele is the cover star of Rolling Stone. Accompanying the photoshoot is a lengthy, candid interview with the usually private singer-songwriter. Throughout, Adele, 27, opens up about her family, “Hello,” fame, heartbreak, and how she has her very own squad (sorry, Taylor.)

Keep reading for six highlights from the massive interview, and keep an eye out for Adele’s album, which is set for a November 20 release.

She doesn’t follow the music charts.

Despite being a fan of Kanye, FKA Twigs, and Alabama Shakes, Adele’s not exactly keeping up with the chart-toppers right now. “I’ve lost touch with music. Not, like, all music. But I feel like I don’t know what’s going on in the charts and in popular culture,” she said. “I’ve not lost touch with, like, reality. Just with what’s current.”

No, “Hello” isn’t about the same heartbreaker from 21.

With lyrics like, “They say that time’s supposed to heal ya/but I ain’t done much healing,” you’d be forgiven for assuming Adele’s latest track, “Hello,” is about the same heartbreaker who inspired the album 21, but the singer says that’s not so. In fact, the song isn’t about one particular person: “If I were still writing about him, that’d be terrible,” she told Rolling Stone. “‘Hello’ is as much about regrouping with myself, reconnecting with myself.”

She added that no, the lyrics “hello from the other side” aren’t supposed to be morbid; they’re about growing up: “It’s actually just from the other side of becoming an adult, making it out alive from your late teens, early 20s.”

Celebrity life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Despite selling more than 31 million copies of her 2011 album, 21, Adele still doesn’t love the celebrity life: “People think I hate being famous. And I don’t. I’m really frightened of it,” she told the mag.

“Watching Amy [Winehouse] deteriorate is one of the reasons I’m a bit frightened. We were all very entertained by her being a mess. I was fucking sad about it, but if someone showed me a picture of her looking bad, I’d look at it. If we hadn’t looked, then they’d have stopped taking her picture. That level of attention is really frightening, especially if you don’t live around all that showbiz stuff.”

She’s has no plans to get married.

Adele is still in a serious relationship with businessman Simon Konecki, but the couple don’t have any plans to tie the knot. “I have said a million times I’m not married, and everyone still says we are,” she explained. “But, yeah, we’re still together. We haven’t broken up. We’ve never broken up. We’ve been together. We just haven’t felt the need to get married. We’ve got a kid together. I feel like that’s a big enough commitment.”

Sorry, Taylor, Adele has her own squad.

Adele mostly hangs out with her family and a few friends she’s had since she was a teenager. “I wish my squad was all supermodels,” she joked. “We are, in our brains. I guess I have my own squad.” Oh, and she totally has room for RiRi in the group too: “It’s not as interesting as some of the other squads that are around right now. But maybe Rihanna can be in my squad! That would be really cool. Oh, God. She’s life itself, isn’t she? I love her.”

She’s focusing on shaping up at the gym.

According to Rolling Stone, the singer is preparing for a potential return to the road, which means a shift in focus to diet and exercise. That includes cutting back on sugar and heading to the gym “to get in shape for myself, but not to be a size zero or anything like that.” She added: “I’m not, like, skipping to the fucking gym. I don’t enjoy it.” We feel you on that one, Adele.
