I’ve always preferred perfume over body sprays; I need a powerful, longer-lasting scent than most fragrance mists can offer. But once I finally tried the viral Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Body Mist, I started reaching for it almost obsessively; the scent is downright intoxicating and I loved that I could still smell it on my clothes hours later. Plus, I’ve gotten far more compliments on it than any other scent I’ve worn before. So when I heard there was a less expensive alternative available, I jumped at the chance to compare the two.
I’m talking about the Cake Beauty Hair & Body Mist that has a near-identical scent to the Sol de Janeiro mist. In my opinion, the two smell indistinguishable since they both feature key notes of salted caramel, vanilla and pistachio. Truth be told, if I closed my eyes and sprayed them both, I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

They also have very similar packaging that releases the product in a lightweight, fine mist. And, since both are marketed as hair and body mists, you’re essentially getting two products in one (ICYMI, hair perfumes are having a moment). I will say, the Cake Beauty Body Mist doesn’t last as long as the Sol de Janeiro, so I’ve found myself needing to touch it up later in the day, or simply layering it with an actual perfume for a stronger fragrance blend.
Beyond smelling exactly like its luxe counterpart, the Cake Beauty mist is also going to wreak less havoc on your wallet. A 6.8 fl oz bottle—which will last awhile—retails for just $10, while a 8.1 fl oz bottle of Sol de Janeiro costs $38. For those moments you don’t want to drop nearly 40 bucks on a new body spray, the Cake Beauty option is a solid way to go. Plus, Amazon shoppers agree it’s worth every dollar.
“I bought this for my daughter as a way to avoid buying my 12 year old a $30 [Sol de Janeiro] product, and now I am going to buy one for myself and tell the other moms about it so they don’t waste their money on the expensive stuff for their kids,” wrote one reviewer. “This one smells AMAZING and both my daughter and I are obsessed!”
Regardless of whether or not you’ve tried the OG, if you love sweet scents, the pleasing aroma of Cake Beauty’s Body Mist will sweep you off your feet. Even if you’re a bit of a perfume connoisseur, I highly recommend grabbing a bottle.
