As spring approaches, I’ve transitioned from woody, musky, and patchouli scents to lighter, fruitier, and softer fragrances. Seeking a scent reminiscent of vacation, I recently discovered the perfect match. A few weeks ago, I visited LoveShackFancy‘s New York City office—a pink-hued dream—to preview the brand’s newest perfume, Love on the Beach.
Known for its dresses adorned with charming ribbons, frills, and prints, LoveShackFancy has an existing fragrance lineup, including Forever in Love (green pear and gardenia), Endless Dreams (strawberry and vanilla), Moondance (rose and sandalwood), and Bohème (peony). Although Love on the Beach features LoveShackFancy’s signature oversized bow and maintains the aesthetic of its predecessors, it introduces a uniquely distinct scent profile.
Rebecca Hessel Cohen, LoveShackFancy’s founder and creator director, described it to StyleCaster as a “deliciously solar scent that transports you,” evoking “full-on mermaid beach vibes.” Her description was spot-on. Upon the first spritz, I was immediately transported to a realm of sand, salty air, and warm sunshine. However, with temperatures at 20 degrees in New York, embracing the scent’s essence was challenging. So, I brought Love on the Beach along on recent trips to Jamaica and Palm Beach, anticipating ample opportunities to bask under the sun.
Typically, when I hit the beach, I slather on my favorite body butter, oil, sunscreen, and a spritz of body mist—Ellis Brooklyn’s Sun is my go-to. But adding Love on the Beach to the mix? That was an exciting change. I didn’t hold back—I’m heavy handed when it comes to perfume—spraying it generously over my chest, arms, and legs, making sure to hit all the pulse points: collarbone, behind my knees, and just behind my ears.
Maybe it was the sun’s warmth, but the scent seemed to come alive. Right away, I caught that fresh, salty sea breeze scent. It was a reviving blend of salty air with a hint of earthiness and briny ocean. Then, I picked up on a subtle hint of coconut—sweet and unmistakably tropical. I’m not too familiar with frangipani, but I noticed a clean, subtle floral note that wasn’t too strong or overpowering. I was reminded of my conversation with Cohen, who described it as a “sexy” and “happy” scent for the girls who love “running barefoot in the sand.” I couldn’t agree more—it truly is a mood booster in a bottle.
I love this fragrance—it’s light, playful, and super refreshing. While it’s definitely a vacation scent—not something I’d wear every day—that’s totally fine. It’s not really suited for the office or brunch, but perfect for a pool day or a rooftop hangout. My only gripe is that it doesn’t last as long as I’d like, though that might be more about the hot weather than the perfume itself. Sun and heat can make scents fade quicker, so it’s no surprise I could only smell it for a few hours. All in all, this is a fun fragrance that gives off a carefree, feminine vibe.
