The TikTok girlies always know what color to dye their hair next. And because they’ve dictated so many of the year’s hottest hair trends, I’m always tuned into my for you page to see what the next big thing is. Apparently, Miley Cyrus is too—because Miley Cyrus’ calico hair just cemented my obsession with the cat-inspired hair color trend.
If you’ve sworn off TikTok, you might’ve missed calico hair. Basically, it’s the combination of ginger, blonde, and black chunky highlights. But the most interesting part, is that the trend started because cat owners wanted to match their hair to their cat’s fur—hence the name. And because ginger hair has been a huge hair color trend this summer, it only makes sense that this Y2K twist on the color would be equally (if not more) popular.
Since her Hannah Montana days, Miley Cyrus has always been a hair icon. And for her cover of W Magazine, she donned purrfectly on-trend calico highlights. If you’re a Hannah stan like me, you’ll appreciate her long straight hair and bangs too. Miley always brings the glamour, whether it’s taking on the newest TikTok hair color trend for a cover shoot or showing up to the Grammys with the most show-stopping ’70s hair. While other celebrities seem to frequent flat hair, Miley is consistently serving the best looks I’ve ever seen.
I know by now that all of Hollywood has the best hairdressers on 24 hour standby, but i’m still pretty impressed that Miley was able to pull off such a current hair look so quickly. Even though my TikTok screen time is at an all time high, I wasn’t expecting a star as big as Miley to be so on top of the latest hair color trends. And because it’s so hard to keep up with microtrends, maybe Miley’s calico hair will push the trend into relevancy for a bit longer before we move on to the next.
