By now, you might’ve heard that Mikey Madison took home the award for Best Actress at the 2025 Oscars. We were beyond obsessed with her performance in Anora—and ever since she graced the big screen, we’ve been keeping tabs on all of the incredible looks she serves. Naturally, her Oscars look last night was no exception. Her coquette-coded Christian Dior gown stole our hearts, and her sleek updo was cemented on our moodboards forever. So, in honor of our favorite Oscar winner, we got the lowdown on the exact steps her hairstylist took to get her chic Oscars hair—including the super affordable drugstore tool she used.
Movie buffs might’ve tuned into the Oscars for the awards and tributes, but us fashion stans know that the red carpet is actually the main event. All night, the stars were giving us their best looks. From Cynthia Erivo’s jaw-dropping emerald gown to Timothée Chalamet’s buttery suit, it’s safe to say the red carpet did not disappoint. And since all eyes were on the nominees of the night, we immediately became obsessed with Mikey Madison’s entire ensemble. Her first Oscars appearance was one for the books, and it’s evident in her beautifully curated red carpet outfit. From her Tiffany & Co jewelry down to her timeless hair and makeup, she definitely had one of our favorite looks of the night.
How to Get Mikey Madison’s 2025 Oscar Updo
Perfecting an updo is no easy feat, especially when an Oscar nomination is on the line. Thankfully for our girl Mikey, her hairstylist Rena Calhoun knew exactly how to deliver that classic Hollywood glamour. Her stylist took inspiration from her elegant yet timeless bow gown, and she wanted to seamlessly integrate a bow shape into her hair by “sculpting the bun in a way that mimics the softness of a ribbon.” As complex as it may sound, it’s actually pretty simple to recreate her updo for yourself.
First, Mikey’s stylist started off by applying the Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer from her mid-lengths to ends in order to detangle and hydrate Mikey’s damp hair. Using the Tangle Teezer Ultimate Detangler Brush (which thankfully for us baddies on a budget, is under $20), she worked the product through her hair while gently detangling. She then separated Mikey’s hair into two inch sections and created a smooth blowout. Once the hair was fully dry, she sprayed the Bumble and Bumble Thickening Dryspun Texture Spray for added volume.
To form the bun, Mikey’s stylist then used a tail comb to part her hair, before finally sculpting the hair into a ribbon-like updo by twisting and shaping it while misting the Bumble and Bumble Spray de Mode Flexible Hold Spray. Working in sections, she continued to mold the updo, setting each piece as she went so it stayed intact all night. Once she was happy with how the bun looked, she locked everything in place with one last final mist of hairspray, and Mikey’s Oscar-winning hair was complete.
