A few months ago, I woke up with the all-too-familiar itch to switch up my hair color and opted for full foil highlights to brighten up my mousy brown strands. Although I am so happy with the change, my hair tends to pull warm and loves to cross the line into brassy territories if I don’t tone it down with a little purple shampoo (or regular salon visit). And since purple shampoo is already a bit drying, it can make my naturally parched hair feel brittle and straw-like.

After trying a combination of purple shampoo and conditioner and then following up with a hearty hair mask, I was able to address some of the drying repercussions, but the dullness and texture persisted. I needed a product that could restore my shine and soften my strands fast, and I found it in the Glaze Super Hair Gloss.

Size: 6.4 ounces
Colors: 14 (including a clear gloss)
Key Ingredients: Fatty acids and plant-based oils with vitamin E
Benefits: The semi-permanent at-home hair gloss

The Glaze Super Hair Gloss is a semi-permanent at-home hair gloss designed to add a layer of shine to your strands, which in turn helps enhance hair color and revitalize its vibrancy. It comes in 14 different colors designed to refresh your color and is formulated with a blend of fatty acids and plant oils that are rich in vitamin E to soften and nourish the strands. It goes on sort of like a deep conditioner with benefits that can last up to 10 washes.

Since my hair is highlighted, and I didn’t want to mess with the color, I tested the clear glaze. Overall, I found the formula incredibly easy to use—it was like a regular conditioner. The consistency was easy to spread evenly throughout my long strands, too.

Upon washing my hair, I styled it like normal (using my trusty Dyson Airwrap ) to see how well my hair took to the gloss treatment. After just one wash, I noticed a difference in the overall shine, but not as much with the texture, so I decided to try the glaze one more time—my hair was really dry—on my next shampoo day and that seemed to do the trick.

Once I went in for round two, my hair felt significantly softer and smoother. These results lasted around eight washes before I saw some of the dullness creep back in. However, it might have been because I was due for a purple shampoo rinse, and the drying effects of purple shampoo could have tampered with the Glaze Super Hair Gloss benefits.
