Ariana Grande’s Old Hair Is Back & People Are Freaking Out

Ariana Grande has a stacked resume, and she’s always cooking up something. Just yesterday, she released a short film titled Brighter Days Ahead, which accompanies the deluxe version of her album Eternal Sunshine. And although stans were happy to celebrate the end of the Eternal Sunshine era with the new short film, they were especially shocked by Ariana’s choice to rock her signature pony—which gave us flashbacks to her Thank U, Next days.
By now, Ariana has cycled through tons of different eras and beauty looks. On the Wicked press tour, she became known for her pink Glinda-inspired outfits and her signature beauty aesthetic turned more soft and girly—with her honey blonde hair always in an elegant updo and her makeup leaning more subtle with glittery touches. Although fans know she can pull off any hairstyle and makeup look, her dramatic winged eyeliner and high ponytail in the Brighter Days Ahead film felt like an obvious ode to her past eras.
In the short film, Ariana wears the high ponytail she frequented for her past albums. Although she’s dabbled with a few different ponytail looks recently—some shorter in length or featuring a slight curl, we haven’t seen her pull off this exact voluminous high pony in years. So of course, fans began to lose their minds over how similar this hairstyle is to her old signature look. Some commenters began to point out how this more dramatic beauty look feels reminiscent of the “old Ariana,” but who’s to say it’s not just the start of yet another new era?
Compared to the Wicked-inspired looks Ariana has been pulling off lately, her aesthetic in Brighter Days Ahead is almost a complete 180. While Wicked era Ariana solely relied on light sparkly makeup, Ariana is now seen wearing dramatic lashes, cat eye liner, and of course her 2018 high pony. Fans have already began theorizing if this is Ariana’s attempt at separating her acting career from her music career, or if it’s purely a coincidence. Only one thing’s for sure though—ponytail Ariana is finally back.
