The Dyson Airstrait, which launched May 11, totally revolutionized wet-to-dry hair straightening tools. Those have existed in the ’90s, but they came with a high price: Totally wrecking your hair by frying strands to bits. The Dyson Airstrait uses innovative technology (and maybe dark magic?) to straighten wet hair with minimal damage, giving your soft, supple, straight hair in less time (under 10 minutes for many, including myself).

What makes the Airstrait so coveted and such a good styling tool is, of course, its Dyson mechanics. “Basically, the Airstrait straightens your hair with only air so there are no plates, unlike the Corrale,” we previously explained. “Inside the arms of the machine are two 1.5mm apertures. Airflow comes through here, creating two high-velocity downward blades of air. The two come together to form a jet of air at a 45 degree angle, straightening your hair and drying it at the same time. The direction of this airflow also keeps strands smooth and shiny.”
