I Tried a Hair Shine Gloss From This TikTok-Viral Brand—& It Made My Hair Look Instantly Healthier

I asked a professional colorist to shed light on its benefits.

I prioritize the health of my hair as much as possible, but there are several times a year when my strands inevitably go through the wringer, and it’s always after a bleach job. While I’ll gladly trade shine and softness for my preferred hair color for a little while, I eventually want those qualities back. Fortunately, adding a hair shine gloss into my routine has helped them return faster.

More specifically, the Rita Hazan Shine Gloss has been my savior, as of late. Available in three different shades—clear, breaking brass and sun-kissed—the treatment adds a dose of shine to stressed-out strands and prevents color fading and dullness. It’s also formulated without sulfates, sodium chloride or parabens.

It’s worth noting the shine gloss is part of a hair care line (some of its products have already gone TikTok-viral) created by Rita Hazan, celebrity colorist and owner of the Rita Hazan Salon in NYC. In order to get the best low-down on the product, I tapped professional colorist Lamont Gonzales of the Rita Hazan Salon on the best way to implement the gloss into your hair care regimen.

What is the difference between all three versions of the shine gloss?

“The difference between all three versions comes down to the color. The Clear will give you shine, whether your hair is color treated or not. The Breaking Brass provides a concentrated purple pigment that helps to counteract brassy tones, which can be used on both blondes & brunettes. The Sun-Kissed gloss adds a luster of golden tint back into the hair while restoring dullness from heat styling and sun damage,” Gonzales told StyleCaster.

At what step should you apply the product? How often should you use it for the best results?

“When I use the glosses on my clients in the salon, I shampoo, condition and then end with the gloss. The great thing about the Rita Hazan Shine Glosses is that they work instantly. I really favor the Rita Hazan glosses because sometimes, I find that in a salon the glosses are heavily pigmented and can tend to dull hair color. The Rita Hazan Glosses have the perfect amount of pigment; it’s not overdone. Simplicity is what I look for in my hair color process.”

What kind of benefits can one expect to see from using the gloss?

According to Gonzales, you can expect the gloss to seal hair cuticles to give you shinier, more vibrant hair. “What I love most is that you don’t have to wait 10 minutes to get the job done. You can make it a part of your hair washing routine. Simply shampoo, condition, tone (leave for 2 mins), rinse, then go about your day.”

Can it be used on all hair types?

Rita Hazan Shine Glosses can be used on all hair types, even hair that isn’t color treated. “The Rita Hazan Shine Gloss is the color tweak that your hair needs without the permanent commitment,” he said.

My personal thoughts

After testing out the shine gloss for several weeks now, I can confidently say it works—and I’ve tried a lot of hair treatments in my time. It has a foam consistency that easily spreads from root to tip (I apply mine in the shower), practically melting into your hair. I leave it on for a few minutes to let the product really soak in before rinsing; it doesn’t leave behind any residue or make my hair feel dry.

I personally went with the Breaking Brass shade to combat any brassy tones that may have otherwise appeared down the line, and I’ve noticed my color looks brighter and more illuminated after each use of the treatment. My strands also have increased in shine, despite all the heat I tend to use on them regularly.

If you’re finding it difficult to revive your hair after an intense dye job, excess heat or beyond, I recommend giving this shine gloss a go—for just $26 a bottle , it’s a no brainer.
