Michael Cera Might Be ‘Just Allan,’ but His New Blonde Hair Is Giving Major Kenergy

I know it’s been awhile since Barbie dropped, but Michael Cera just did the most anti-Allan thing of his whole career. He dyed his hair blonde. That’s right—Michael Cera has never strayed far from his natural brunette hair, aside from his appearance in the Barbie movie as a redhead. But like so many celebrities before him, Cera has reached for the bleach. And we have to admit, blonde Michael Cera looks better than we expected him to.
It’s been almost a year since Barbie‘s release. So naturally, the Barbie era has come to a close. Margot Robbie ditched her long Barbie hair for a bob, and it only makes sense that Michael Cera would change up his look too. While I can acknowledge that all good things must come to an end, I’d be lying if I said I was expecting Michael to morph into a Ken as he entered his next era.
Michael Cera arrived to the Tribeca Film Festival with shaggy warm blonde hair. Unlike Tom Holland’s hair transformation, this new look thankfully spared Michael’s signature curls. So even though it’s a pretty alarming change, I can still (kind of) recognize our awkward king with the new color. Michael definitely has loyal stans, so even if this look isn’t their cup of tea, I trust that they’ll grow to love it in time.
Although I’m not exactly sure what Michael’s cooking up with this new look, it definitely marks a new era of his acting career. He’s been a part of some huge projects in the past, like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Superbad—but he’s taking on a new kind of role in his upcoming movie Sacramento. The film is a comedy-drama, so there’s no doubt some potential for Michael to challenge everyone’s expectations of him. And because I wasn’t really expecting him to go blonde, I guess he’s already doing just that.
