Curly-Haired Girls, Rejoice: There Are Finally Emojis for You
Emojis have come a long way since the “:)” of AOL Instant Messenger circa 2003. Now we’ve got one for everything we could possibly need: a glass of red wine? Yep. Lipstick? You bet. A taco? As of a few weeks ago, yes. They’re all just a tap of the touch screen away.
But one thing emoji collections tend to overlook is a solid variety of people icons to choose from. It was a total revelation when we could finally switch up the skin tones. When we use emojis modeled after people to express our emotions and reactions, we obviously want to be able to pick an icon that, well, kind of resembles us.
Unfortunately, curly-haired ladies went unacknowledged, with the standard emoji keyboard instead choosing to focus on a girl with straight hair in a pink shirt doing five different things with her hands. Useful, yes, but not exactly diverse.
Today, as part of its #LoveYourCurls campaign, Dove launched a keyboard of multicultural and curly-haired emojis available for free download via the App Store and Google Play. There are over 100 emojis included plus GIFs, so no matter your complexion, no matter your hair color, Dove has curly girls covered. Good lookin’ out.
