A Lesson in the Perfect Messy Ponytail, Courtesy of Kelly Rohrbach

Lest you think Kelly Rohrbach’s skill set mostly involves being hot and dating Leonardo DiCaprio, think again—she also did a great job of pulling off a cool, slightly dressed-up ponytail at last night’s launch celebration for the 2016 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue! (As a side note, girlfriend went to Georgetown University on a golf scholarship and has a degree in theater, so she most likely has some other talents, too.)

Let’s break down what’s great about it:

1. It’s messy, but not too messy.
2. It has some fuzz for that bedheady, roll-in-the-hay vibe, but isn’t frizzy.
3. The way the pony is kind of splayed out at the base makes fine hair look like there’s more of it.

So. A messy ponytail doesn’t always have to translate to the sloppy gym-ready iteration, and if you roll with your natural texture and add a few details like wrapping a section of hair around the base of the ponytail to conceal an elastic, you’ve got a hairstyle that’s just as versatile as loose waves or a top knot.

We’re betting that Kelly probably, definitely had a hairstylist on hand to create this look, but it also takes literally five minutes (or less) to do it on your own. However, when you’re a successful Sports Illustrated model, you need not lower yourself to such extremes.
