The word “lazy” has a negative connotation, which we’re not sure is entirely justified. Say in the case of your hairstyles of choice: if you’re eschewing time-consuming done-up ‘dos in favor of quick and easy, laid-back styles, does that make you lazy… or just efficient? If you couldn’t already tell, we’re arguing in favor of the latter. With that in mind, add these 3 lazy efficient hairstyles to your easy-going arsenal this summer.

If you’ve never quite been able to master the art of wrapping a strand of hair around the base of your ponytail just so in order to conceal the elastic, then the almost-but-not-quite effect will solve all your problems while still looking a little more polished than your average pony. Pull your hair back into a secure ponytail as you usually do, then wrap a small section around the base and hold in place with a gold bobby pin. Loose ends add to the appeal, and a understated decorative pin means that it’s all the better for being visible.

The half-up bun is having a definite moment, and this deconstructed version could not be easier. It’s perfect for beach-tousled hair, dirty hair, clean hair, what have you—just pull your hair back into a ponytail and create a loop, letting the ends hang loose. You can loosen strands around the face as well to soften the look or leave it as is.

A low, loose pony is the ultimate in where lazy meets cool (but still, you know, lazy). This look works best on hair with long layers or that’s all one length, but it’ll still work great if you have shorter, wispier pieces around your face. Pull the hair back from both sides of your part—rather than straight back, to make it a little more purposeful—and secure at the nape of your neck. We like the look of the hidden elastic, but if you can’t manage, just use the easy trick from the first look!
