Braids: we can’t get enough of them, and we’re always down for fun new ways to incorporate them into our weekend hair repertoire. So when we saw Olivia Palermo‘s hair at the New York City Ballet Spring Gala, we got really excited.

The perfect combination of elegant and undone, this gorgeous hairstyle is the work of celebrity stylist (and our instagram favorite) Lacy Redway. She shared how she created Olivia’s gorgeous textured braid with us—and good news, it’s way easier than you think!
Lacy began by prepping Olivia’s hair with Big Sexy Hair Blow Dry Volumizing Gel ($18), applied all over the head (and not just at the ends). “This adds volume and texture,” Redway explained. She then rough-dried Palermo’s hair using her Amika Blow Dryer ($89) to make it easier to grip as she braided.
The braid itself is really cool: pulling the hair straight back from the forehead, Lacy began with a three-strand French-braid. “Once I got to the middle of the braid, I finished off with a four strand braid to add a little more pizzazz,” she said.
After tying off the end with a clear plastic hairtie, Lacy finished the entire style with Serge Normant Meta Luxe Hairspray ($12) to tame flyaways and give extra hold. Voila! A beautiful braided hairstyle that looks just as good on the red carpet as it will at brunch. Try it out this weekend!
