Emily Blunt had one of the best hair and makeup looks at last night’s Golden Globes, and we know we’re not alone in thinking so. From her glowing skin and subtle smokey eye to the perfect matte nude lip and tousled braided updo, there wasn’t a single attribute to her look that we weren’t head over heels for. The look came courtesy of makeup artist Jenn Streicher (who worked with Kiehl’s and Dior) and celebrity hairstylist Laini Reeves, both of whom spilled every single detail that worked to create Emily’s flawless look.
First things first: skin care. Streicher prepped the skin with Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream and Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, then “slathered” Emily’s lips in Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 to create a well-moisturized canvas for her matte lip.
After applying the skin treatments, Streicher moved on to Emily’s eye makeup rather than going straight to foundation and concealer to allow time for the moisturizers to absorb. She started by dabbing Dior Backstage Eye Prime over the entire lid, then mixed two of the lighter shades from a shimmery neutral brown shadow palette over the lid. She also mixed the two darker shades from the same palette into the crease of the eye, focusing on the outer corners and a bit of the lower lash line. Streicher brushed a bit of Emily’s blush, Diorblush in Cocktail Peach, onto the lids to warm up the color. Next, she dabbed Diorshow Fushion Mono in Chimère, a rosy bronze, over the entire lid for a touch of shimmer, and finished off the eyes with plenty of black Diorshow Mascara.
Stretcher smoothed Kiehl’s Micro-Blur Skin Perfector over Emily’s T-zone to refine pores and then applied Diorskin Star, followed by the Diorskin Star Concealer to cover any little imperfections or redness. Finally, for Streicher’s favorite part of the look, she applied Rouge Dior Lipstick in Grège with just a touch of the new Rouge Dior Brilliant Lipshine in Victoire (available March 1) over the top for dimension. Stretcher said of the look, “Emily told me it might be her favorite look I’ve ever done on her.”
It goes without saying that Emily’s makeup was on point, but her braided hairstyle was also one of the beauty highlights of the evening. Stylist Laini Reeves said of the look, “[Emily] wanted to look fresh and young, and braids give a younger feeling with a softer texture.” She prepped the actress’s damp locks with Malin+Goetz Sage Styling Cream and used a tail comb to create a center part, then “power dried” the hair with a blast from the blowdryer. Once the hair was dry, she added Serge Normant Dream Big Instant Volumizing Spray all over, then power dried again to create a thick, tousled texture to help hold the braid in place.
For the braid, Reeves separated the hair into two equal portions on each side. On both sections she created an inside out braid, also known as a Dutch braid, to the nape of the neck, then crossed the braids over one another at the nape. She secured the braids with bobby pins, then spritzed the volume spray all over once again for hold. The look, evidently, lasted all night.
