I’m going to say something that might ruffle some feathers: I don’t think setting sprays work that well. I’ve tried my fair share of them, and almost always, there’s absolutely zero difference in the look of my makeup. To top it off, by hour three, my skin looks just as oily as it typically would without the use of one.
But here’s where I recently ate my words. I spritzed my face with Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Impeccable 24HR Blurring Matte Setting Spray for giggles, and it immediately had me scratching my head. I kept glancing at my skin in the mirror in disbelief; whereas my makeup would normally emphasize breakouts or texture, my face looked incredibly smooth.
At first glance, this setting spray seems just like the rest. It promises to extend the longevity of your makeup for up to 24 hours (not that you’ll keep it on that long), minimize shine thanks to its matte finish, and reduce the look of pores, fine lines and wrinkles. But it truly does give your skin a blurred, filter-like effect—especially when paired with the matching foundation (you can read my review here).

The combination is one of the best I’ve tried in a long, long time. As someone who struggles to feel confident in their skin—breakouts come and go frequently—the duo made me believe in the power of makeup again. That said, the setting spray delivers on its claims just as well when used with other brand’s makeup products. On a different note, the bottle doesn’t bring a fine, lightweight mist to your skin, so be prepared to get a full-force spritz (you can fan your skin to dry it down quicker).
As far as longevity, I was near-equally impressed. I applied my full face of makeup (including the setting spray) in the morning, and by the evening only needed a little powder touch-up. All things considered, my beat stayed pretty much intact—which is not the norm for my skin.
After sifting through reviews on the Sephora website to see other people’s experiences, I found plenty of other users have seen similar results.
“The blurring matte setting spray was phenomenal,” wrote one shopper. “I used it in the morning before work, and my makeup didn’t budge all day. At night, it seemed the same as it did in the morning, which is a difficult feat. Also same effect when I used it for a night out!”
“What a fantastic product. This setting spray is divine and makes my makeup last all day. It sprays evenly and easily, isn’t sticky, and makes my skin look fantastic. I get a real glow from this product,” shared another.
If you haven’t had much luck with setting sprays, I suggest giving this one a try. It’s available to shop at Sephora for $36.
