I don’t wear a lot of makeup and usually take a skincare-forward approach to my daily look. And, while I might skip mascara most days of the week, I rarely leave home without brushing, fluffing, and defining my eyebrows. I’m usually a brow gel girl through and through, and I don’t often reach for an eyebrow pencil because I have a heavy hand. I don’t want my brows looking too out of place with my no-makeup makeup look (plus, I find a gel faster and easier when I am in a hurry).

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer Review

My mind completely changed when I saw that Rebecca Hicky, the lead makeup artist for HBO’s The White Lotus, told PopSugar she used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer to create Jaclyn Lemon’s (Michelle Monaghan) look for the show. Hicky also took to her Instagram to share a full breakdown of Jaclyn’s episode 2 makeup, saying the goal was to keep her look clean, natural, and lived-in. This is exactly my everyday makeup goal, so I knew I had to try it.

The Best Brow Pencil for Natural Makeup

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer is a double-sided pencil with a retractable creamy, crayon-like pencil on one end and a spoolie brush on the other. I love that the pencil features a pointed slant shape, which makes it easier to achieve clean, individual strokes when filling in brows, and that the retractable design means you don’t have to worry about a messy sharpening situation.

While testing the pencil, I first used the spoolie brush (which comes with a cap to keep it clean while in your makeup bag) to brush out my brows and give them some shape. Then, I flipped it around and began using light strokes on the inner corners of my brows—where it usually looks sparse—and in some spots on my arch that look a little bare. Like most people, my brows aren’t perfectly symmetrical, and both need definition in different spots. Compared to my go-to brow gel, I love that the pencil allows me to customize my look a bit more and hone in on those spots without it looking too dark and dramatic for my daytime look. After applying the pencil, I gave my brown one more brush-through to blend and was so pleased with the natural but defined outcome.
