I Tried the Mascara Olivia Rodrigo Wore to the Grammys & It Gave Me an Instant Lash Lift

I am picky about the makeup I wear and usually gravitate toward light and natural makeup options that could easily be elevated from a no-makeup makeup look to an evening MOTD with just a few extra swipes. When I first picked the Lancôme Lash Idôle Flutter Extension Lengthening Mascara up, I was surprised by how the tube was as light as a feather. I recognize this isn’t the most important detail when buying mascara, but I sprained my wrists last year, and they’re still a little sensitive. The lightweight design felt nice to hold and made it so the application process didn’t irritate my weakened wrists. 

For a lengthening mascara, I was expecting a large, fluffy applicator spoolie but was instead met with a thin spoolie with 480 teeny tiny bristles that didn’t look like they’d do much (oh, was I wrong). Those tiny bristles are designed to grab onto each individual lash and coat them in the mascara formula, so you get a more even application that is buildable with just a few swipes—and without any clumping. 

“I have thin, nearly non-existent lashes and have found that thin spoolies that coats each, individual lash are my jam. Thick wands are usually too intense for me and just leave smudges on my eyelid and give me a raccoon look,” Gina Vaynshteyn, senior commerce director, says. “This formula truly lengths my lashes. I look like I’m wearing falsies, but really good, natural-looking ones.”

This mascara doesn’t give you the most dramatic-looking lashes, but it’s one of the best lengthening mascaras I’ve tried for more of an everyday look. In the above photo, you can see how it added subtle definition to my lashes and helped them look longer and more lifted, too. I was able to achieve this with just two coats and could have totally kept going, but I am going for a no-makeup makeup look today. 

I also appreciate that the lightweight mascara is comfortable for long wear and doesn’t cause irritation to my sensitive, light eyes, even when wearing it all day. It’s also easy to remove (I just used a swipe of micellar water), and you aren’t left having to get leftovers with a makeup remover-soaked Q-Tip.
