I Went to 2 Weddings in 72 Hours & This Talc-Free ‘Magic’ Setting Powder Earned Me Compliments at Both

I was exhausted, but my makeup wasn’t.

I’ll admit: By the time I stepped into the second wedding venue in the Catskills—shortly after a whirlwind flight back from a wedding in Colorado just a few hours before—I was running purely on adrenaline and caffeine. But there was one secret weapon I had in my clutch that made me look pulled together, even when I felt anything but: Caliray’s Magic Hour 16-Hour Blurring Setting Powder. This talc-free, barely-there miracle has quickly become my makeup MVP for keeping me looking good, even on the sweatiest, danciest, travel-heavy weekends—and here’s why.

An Honest Review of Caliray's Blurring Setting Powder
Caliray Magic Hour 16-Hour Blurring Setting Powder
Use For: Setting makeup, brightening, blurring, and controlling shine
Shades: 2 (Dawn and Golden)
Formula: Loose powder
Finish: Natural
Key Ingredients: 8-hyaluronic acid complex (locks in moisture), silica (blurs and absorbs oil), aloe leaf extract (conditions skin)
Benefits: Sweatproof, talc-free, non-comedogenic, fragrance-free, cruelty-free, paraben-free
Pros: Barely-there feel, long-wearing, smoothing, no flashback

How It Works

As someone who has tested dozens of setting powders and sprays in her career as a commerce writer, I was immediately impressed by Magic Hour’s texture. This powder is so fine, it truly feels like nothing’s there. Most setting powders feel chalky or dusty once they’re on thanks to talcum powder, even when they’re marketed to feel “barely there”. However, this one skips talc to feel truly invisible. It’s nano-milled, so it doesn’t settle into creases or cause flashback, and it set my foundation flawlessly and just… disappeared. Even my makeup artist for the first wedding in Colorado (who I requested set my face with this powder) was super impressed.

As for the formula, it uses Caliray’s patented “hydra process”—meaning it’s processed with purified water, not oil—so there’s nothing heavy or greasy weighing down your skin. It’s also non-comedogenic, which, if you’ve ever had a powder of doom clog your pores or pill hours later, you’ll appreciate.

Currently, there are two pretty shades: Dawn, a lighter, brighter, pink-er hue, and Golden for folks with warmer undertones. Both blur and set your makeup for 16 hours, all while keeping shine and sweat at bay.

My Review

Despite casually dusting Caliray’s Magic Hour 16-Hour Blurring Setting Powder on myself a few days prior, I knew the real test would be seeing how well it held up on two long wedding days. So, I packed both shades with me on a flight to Colorado to give them a spin.

As mentioned, I had a professional makeup artist apply my look for the first wedding since I was in the bridal party. She dusted Magic Hour in Dawn on as the final step and immediately gave it her seal of approval, noting how weightless and smooth it looked on my skin. From there, the powder had a true endurance test: mid-day portraits in high-altitude sun, an afternoon ceremony, a sit-down dinner, and a sweaty dance floor that stayed open late into the night. Through every stage, my complexion stayed put. It kept my T-zone balanced without ever looking cakey or dry, and my skin still had that blurred, softly radiant finish hours later.

For the second wedding, I applied my own makeup, which was done in a mad dash after a long day of travel. My skin was tired, my under-eyes were puffy, and I had about 30 minutes to transform myself from “weary guest” to “ready to party.” Normally, that kind of rushed means my base slips within a couple of hours—but Magic Hour came through again. This time, I set my concealer and foundation with a light dusting of the powder in Golden to see how it would compare to Dawn, and somehow my complexion looked smooth, fresh, and photo-ready all night long—even until the after, after party at 3 a.m. (yes, this bride and groom liked to party).

A massive perk for special events: no flashback. Not once. The powder boasts a natural finish and photo-friendly formula that behaved beautifully under the cameras of both weddings. So, to anyone heading into an event marathon (two weddings in two days, anyone??) or just a packed workweek, I can’t recommend this stuff enough. Caliray’s Magic Hour kept my makeup on without ever looking heavy, stayed sweat-proof on the dance floor, and looked seamless in photos, even when my brain felt like it was wilting. Chin-chin!
