It’s 2007. You finished your ultra-matte makeup application with tons of glittery bronzer and no blush. Your brows are sculpted with not a hair out of place. The finishing touch? A swipe of concealer on your lips. It’s hard to believe we thought the nude, cakey color was the perfect addition to any makeup look. And we didn’t think it would ever come back. But leave it to Sofia Richie Grainge to make concealer lips cool again. Don’t worry — this time, there’s no cake in sight.

In one of her latest TikTok videos, Grainge showed her 3+ million followers her lip combo for fall. It started off innocently enough. She uses Yves Saint Laurent Candy Glaze Lip Gloss Stick ($39 at Sephora) in shades 14 Scenic Brown and 15 Showcasing Nude. (The video is sponsored by YSL Beauty.) “They are absolutely stunning,” she says. “What I love about these products is that they’re so hydrating, they’re so lightweight, easy to carry around.”

She applies both colors to her lips, starting with shade 14 and adding 15 on top. Then, she finishes with what she calls the “cherry on top,” a small amount of concealer in the middle of her lips. “You get this beautiful ombré lip combo,” she says.

Applying any lighter lipstick in the center of your lips (or even a light-reflecting gloss) is going to give the appearance of a fuller pout, which is pretty on pretty much everyone. If you want to try the trend and keep it from veering too far into Y2K territory, stick with a creamy, light-coverage concealer that will blend into your lipstick instead of staying put right in the center of your lips. (Ick.)

TBH, we’ll probably stick with a nude lipstick that closely matches the color of our lips to get that same ombré effect. Some things are just better left on TikTok.
