If I were to be honest, I’ve been sick of ombré for a while now—every time a friend texts me with pictures talking me through how they’ve added more of a dramatic line to their gradient hair, or brought the height up just an inch, I feign interest. Rachel Bilson, I love you but I hate you for this trend. But, that gradation of colors just found its way into makeup—and much to my surprise I’m all for it. Perhaps because it comes from the one and only Tom Ford.
Tom Ford’s fall line includes four Eye and Cheek Shadow Duos ($65) that range from bronze to pink, and are packaged in a soft ombré in the palette. Trust me when I say I had hesitations when I first came across them. An ombré pink shadow? No way was I touching that. But then I tried it—and there is no going back.

Since the duos are for cheeks and eyes, you can either blend the compact together for a mix of colors (from highlight to full color) or pick and choose which parts of the palette to use. I am a picky girl and like to use the compact by section for each application. I tend to use the darkest part on eyelids, and the “highlight” area in the inner corners of my peepers. Then I add a touch of the darkest color on my cheeks as well.
The reason for the ombré compact: It was meant to make it easier on all of our lives so that we can match our eyes and cheeks—a trend for fall that Mr. Ford showed off on models at his show. Personally, I love anything that makes my life easier, and I’ll take it in any form I can get. Even if that happens to be ombré.
