Breaking Down This Week’s Celebrity Beauty MVPs
Blame it on the transitional weather, but we’ve noticed that the beauty theme this week among the celebrity set veered toward the natural—a far cry from the bold, often overdone looks we’re using to seeing on red carpets.
Natalie Portman‘s subtle smoky eye and Dree Hemingway’s completely bare face are two prime examples of starlets who scaled (way) back on beauty this week, and it feels like a breath of (non-muggy) air.
They’ve both landed on our weekly list of beauty MVPs, as did six other celebs who killed it with their surprisingly simple hair and makeup.
If you’ve yet to be convinced that brown-leaning ’90s lip colors are trending hard, Elizabeth Olsen‘s glossy, glamorous choice should do the trick. She’s also sporting the messy fall waves of our dreams, proving a little bit of frizz (yes, frizz) can go a long way.
Despite being just 15, Kiernan Shipka has proven her grasp of hair and makeup trends to be well beyond her years. This mohawk-like braid looks insanely complicated, but that won’t stop us from trying (and probably failing) to recreate it at home.
Her relocation to France is clearly making an impact: Natalie Portman looked totally à la Parisienne with an understated smoky eye, naturally glossy lips, and those amazing brows. Trashing our tweezers seems like a really, really good idea all of a sudden.
Going red is a bold move, but Sienna Miller seemed to have no trouble at all with the transition. We suspect it may have something to do with her long, choppy bob, which goes with pretty much everything.

Naomi Watts can almost always be counted on to shut down a red carpet no matter which look she chooses, but we’re especially into disheveled texture of this updo paired with the wine-colored lip.
We thought a complexion as radiant as Ashley Madekwe‘s only existed in dreams—not so! This further speaks to our hypothesis that sometimes all you need to knock ’em dead is killer lashes, polished brows, and skin that glows.
Sleek center-parted ponytails, fresh faces: we’re sensing a theme here. Dree Hemingway has mastered the model off-duty look—well, she is a model.
