Kylie Jenner Thinks You Should Probably Be Contouring Your Ears

It’s fair to say that the Kardashians brought contouring to the masses: After Kim shared that fateful photo of her pre-blending contour-and-highlight situation back in 2014, the sculpting makeup practice once almost exclusive to the repertoires of professional makeup artists was officially a thing everyone could try their hand at.

But if you want to truly contour like a Kardashian-Jenner, you may have to move beyond the cheekbones, forehead, and chin into a different territory. That would be the ears.

Last night, Kylie Jenner posted a new video on her website showing just how her makeup artist, Hrush Achemyan, does her painstakingly thorough contouring. It all starts out very normally: Achemyan does Kylie’s nose, forehead, cheeks, and jawline. But then! Kylie steps in to instruct Achemyan to cover her ears, too. “Oh yeah, I like when you do my ears,” she says.

She wasn’t joking. Achemyan agreed, “It’s a really good tip that a lot of people don’t do.” It makes sense, kind of: If you’re contouring your entire face in a shade darker than your skin tone and leaving your ears untouched, it’ll be real, real obvious, particularly in photos. “Just like your neck, your ears are a part of your face,” the makeup artist explains. It’s solid advice, but maaaaybe not for every day.
