We’d be lying if we said we never, ever engaged in some beauty zhooshing before heading to the gym. Whether it’s filling in brows, applying a bit of waterproof mascara, or even dabbing on concealer, we’ve been guilty of dressing up (perhaps a little bit too much) for a spin class. It’s definitely not our first priority or even something we’d recommend, but it happens. So when we heard about Birchbox’s Arrow Makeup Line, we first thought, “who tapped our text convos?” and then decided we had to give it a shot, immediately.
If it makes use feel confident, actually works, and doesn’t clog our pores, we’re all for it.
Consisting of an Aluminum-Free Deodorant ($9), a Cooling Cheek Tint ($18), and a Color-Enhancing Lip Balm ($14), the collection is rather tiny but sounds like it would do the trick in getting you minimally dolled up for a workout. We decided to put them through the test of a weights session, a Jillian Michaels DVD, and a kickboxing class.
The deodorant applied smooth, smelled decent, and did a solid job at minimizing odor, but because it’s not an antiperspirant, you’ll definitely still sweat. Then again, isn’t that the reason for going to the gym?
Next up was the Cooling Cheek Tint, which we found to actually be cooling. It dispenses from a brush-like tip in a super bright neon hue. We were a little nervous of the intense pigment, but it sheers out to just the right light pink shade. If you’re someone who gets red from workouts easily, it might not be up your alley, but it was great for helping our skin look awake and energized before a workout. It stayed on perfectly during a lifting session that wasn’t as sweat-drenched but faded significantly during kickboxing. It didn’t flake off or pill up, so we were happy campers regardless.
The moisturizing lip balm felt amazing on our lips, and because the formula is pH based, it changed to a light pink tint once it touched our skin. It doesn’t feel like you are wearing lipstick or gloss to the gym, but you still get that nice touch of color. At the end of the DVD and kickboxing, our lips still felt hydrated.
The takeaway? If you want a lipstick or a blush you won’t feel bad wearing to the gym, this is it. You can barely feel either of the products on your skin and they look so natural. We can get behind that. More of an eye makeup girl? Well Arrow has good news for you. The brand has plans to expand to a waterproof mascara, an eyebrow gel, and even a skin tint.
We’ll be waiting anxiously to test all three of the new products out through a FlyWheel class—promise to keep you posted.
