You can obsess over Julianne Hough’s lob later. Right now we’re obsessed with her refreshing, colorful take on the smokey eye. Instead of opting for the regular grey shadow so often seen on the red carpet, Julianne attended last night’s “Dancing With the Stars” filming wearing the classic look in gorgeous iridescent blue-green shades.

But her look wasn’t just the work of one perfectly pigmented shadow formula—her makeup artist, Spencer Barnes, used a few different hues to create this mermaid-y look, and we’ve got the details on the exact products in his kit.

Barnes used four different colors from the Italian makeup brand Kiko Milano. He focused on using the brand’s Water Eyeshadow collection—a product that has a creamy, crease-proof consistency and can be used wet or dry.

And guess what? Not one true blue shade was used to get this look. First, he covered the entire lid in Golden Mauve ($14, kikocosmetics.com). Next, he applied Olive Green to the crease and then defined the outer crease with a Dark Slate Green. To bring attention to the brows, he highlighted the brow bone with Champagne shadow—not highlighter, which is an amazing multitasking substitute.

So where does that blue come in? To finish off the look, he used the Kiko Milano Midnight Siren Moon Shadow Stick in Glistening Turquoise ($9, kikocosmetics.com) on the top and lower lash lines.

What’s more, Barnes paired it with a pink, matte lip rather than a nude. It’s a move we’d definitely be skeptical of at first for the obvious fear of going way overboard with the color, but the balance worked really well. We don’t know about you, but we want to embrace our inner mermaids all fall now.
