In lieu of a brief rumination on my choice in lipsticks, I will defer you to the not-so-immortal (and definitely NSFW) words of rap duo Rae Sremmurd: I ain’t got no type. From matte to glossy, vivid orange-reds to subdued neutrals, no lipstick on this earth (or any other planet, I would think) is outside of my realm of interest. I’ve tried them all, I’ve tested them all extensively, and to this day—yes, even as a beauty editor, who routinely receives these types of things for free—I still pick one up almost every time I pass a Sephora. This love is real.
Because I’ve given so many lipsticks a test drive of their own, I feel confident in saying that I really do have a good grasp on which ones are best. The longest-lasting, the most pigmented, the least drying, the prettiest packaging—I have a definitive answer for each of these categories and beyond. But when it comes to a single formula that hits all those notes, and really goes above and beyond, well, those are few and far between. That’s exactly why I try every new lipstick that hits the market: I’m really looking for that Holy Grail, the lipstick to end all lipsticks.
Like all good beauty evangelists, I promised myself that if and when I were to find that champion, that hero, that all-around winner, I would not keep it to myself. I would tell the world. I would never let anyone I cared about purchase another sub-par lipstick again. Which is exactly why I’m here, telling you, that the only lipstick you should be spending your (no doubt very hard-earned!) money on is NARS Audacious Lipstick.
If it’s creamy, moisturizing, luxurious, full-coverage, long-lasting, semi-matte texture you’re after—and of course it is, because why wouldn’t it be?—then you’re in the right place. If you want all of those things, as well as 40 shades running the gamut from pale icy pinks and cool nudes to rich reds and vibrant plums, well… you’re also in the right place. If you’re not looking to spend $32 on a single tube, well… nobody is, and a lipstick is a lipstick, but a game-changing lipstick? That’s in another category entirely, and as far as I’m concerned, Audacious is the first and only of its kind. Start with one and see how you feel. Soon, you’ll be singing its praises, and recommending to all of your friends that they, too, invest in a $32 lipstick. Go ahead and acknowledge how ridiculous that is and then move on, flawless lipstick in place.
