The Best Quick Fixes 5 Common Makeup Mistakes

With great power comes great responsibility, and that applies doubly to wielding a makeup brush or a liquid liner pen. Makeup mistakes happen to the best of us, from the total rookie to the seasoned makeup artist (maybe). Fortunately, the most common ones also happen to be easily fixed, so even the most serious spider lash can be corrected in no time at all. Here’s how!

The Problem: Your lashes are less doe-eyed and more daddy longlegs.
The Fix: Spidery lashes are actually kind of trendy right now, but if the look isn’t working in your favor, then don’t stress. We’re loving lash combs right now, but if you don’t have one yet (get one!), grab tweezers or a pair of brow scissors. Carefullycarefully!use the tip of either tool to separate the lashes from one another. Don’t even think about re-curling or applying another coat of mascara; it’ll just make things worse.

The Problem: You encountered a sudden case of shaky hands while applying lipstick, and now there’s way more on your face than there should be.
The Fix: All too frequently, using a Q-tip with water or makeup remover to clean up smudged or errant lipstick results in, well, more smears. It’ll also take off any makeup you’ve applied before it, which is pretty undesirable when you’ve just spent fifteen minutes working on your concealer game. Instead of trying to forcibly remove the color from your skin, use your regular concealer and a brush to cover it up. It’ll be cleaned up in no time.

The Problem: Your blush looked great in your bathroom mirror, but upon leaving the house you quickly discovered that you look like a clown in all other lighting.
The Fix: Instead of rubbing the blush off, which will mess with your foundation and concealer and could result in irritation, just swirl your regular powderor better still, a translucent formulaover the area. It’ll just help to blend the color into your face for a more natural finish. Easy!

The Problem: You got a little overzealous with the brow powder and, well two words: Groucho Marx.
The Fix: Accidentally giving yourself crazy eyebrows can feel like the end of the damn world, but that’s mostly because you suddenly become very aware of how your face would look with them, not because they’re impossible to fix once you’ve messed them up. Take your usual brow comb or spoolie and gently brush your brows upward and outward to blend. If the color smudges outside the lines, just use a Q-tip, ideally one of the ones with a pointed tip, to clean it up.

The Problem: Liquid eyeliner. Moving car. Need we say more?
The Fix: If you weren’t already convinced that Q-tips are the solution for pretty much every beauty woe imaginable, this should seal the deal. A pointed cotton swab dipped in a small amount of makeup remover (don’t wet it too much) will clean that cat eye right up and, let’s be honest, probably make it a little more defined than you could with a liner pen and your free hand alone. If you’re concerned about disturbing concealer, mascara, or other makeup around it, you can also use a small concealer brush to clean up the line.
