Late nights and early mornings mean most of us are running late from time to time, especially when our warm beds are way more attractive than heading out the door. On the mornings that we hit the snooze button and end up with minimal time to get ready, what beauty tips can we use to ensure we look our best—and not like we just rolled out of bed?
Depuff
When it comes to jetting out of bed with only ten minutes to beautify, it’s all about de-puffing your sleepy skin. Annie Tevelin, makeup artist & founder of SkinOwl, suggests going straight to the freezer and massaging an ice cube all over your face. The chill factor will take the puffiness out of tired skin and make you appear more awake. Secondly, apply a hydrating lifting foundation to perk up the skin and smooth out pillow lines. Sweep similar nude hues over eyes, lips, and cheeks to play down any ruddiness on the cheeks and bloodshot eyes.
Brighten Eyes
Apply white or beige eyeliner on the lower rim of your eyes and on the top of the eyelids on the upper lash lines, suggests Cherry Blooms founder Jellaine Ross. If the promise of bigger and brighter-looking eyes isn’t enough, Ross also says that this is the trick that Victoria’s Secret Angels use to look their best. Next, apply a thin strip of black eyeliner on top of the upper lash line. Ross says that you can also apply on the lower lash line, but not on the inner rim and not all the way to the inner corner of your eyes to avoid making the eye look smaller. Apply a light eyeshadow over the lids, like a pearly white or pale peach shade.
Sleeping Beauty
Use a satin pillowcase rather than the standard cotton. The smooth satin prevents the development of sleep lines on your face, which is a dead giveaway that you just hopped out of bed, says organization specialist Jamie Novak.
Plan Ahead
Have a “go-to” hairstyle that you’ve already perfected at the ready, says Novak. Try a pretty specialty clip that will give a messy, tousled updo a classier, more polished look. Keep your emergency hair accessory in a designated location in your bathroom so you always know where it is, and won’t waste time digging through the drawer to find it.
You should also keep a small makeup case pre-filled with your basics, says Novak. This is the bag you can grab and go to put makeup on outside the house, or simply reach for in a rush without having to rifle through your entire drawer.
Make Up For fhat Missed Shower
When we’re still snuggled up in our sheets, it’s easy to choose sleep over the shower. If your roots are looking a little oily, have no fear: Just spray your locks with a quick spritz of dry shampoo, like Kérastase Powder Bluff Dry Shampoo, which conquers oil and frizz with no white residue or stiffness and is buildable depending on your hair type and needs, says Nicholas Penna Jr., owner and lead stylist at SalonCapri.
Smooth Flyaways
A long night in the sack can result in some pretty horrifying bedhead, so make sure to smooth those flyways with a serum or oil, says Penna.
