The stars turned out last night for the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards ceremony. There were several great looks, but Mandy Moore’s simple, elegant dress paired with bright pink makeup really impressed us.

A high ponytail like Mandy’s can put the focus on what you’re wearing, but it also calls attention to your face. When you have your hair slicked back so severely, it’s key to have a fresh face and soft makeup look so you don’t look harsh. Mandy definitely succeeded!

Step 1: Line the upper and lower outer corners of your eye with a dark brown pencil, like Neutrogena Nourishing Eye Liner in Spiced Chocolate ($7.49, Neutrogena.com).

Step 5: Finish the look with a bright pink lipstick, like MAC lipstick in Impassioned ($14.50, Maccosmetics.com), and a light layer of translucent powder.
