Do you love watching people solder, hammer and punch holes? Have you ever wondered how shoes are cobbled? No? How about petty reality show arguments about inane competitions? Yes? We thought so. Lifetime must agree, because their much-hyped Project Runway spinoff, Project Accessory, finally premieres tonight.

Day-To-Date Accessories

Project Accessory is exactly what it sounds like. The show will follow a similar format to Project Runway with weekly episodes in which accessory designers will be challenged to create the next great jewelry, belts, shoes, hats and more. Contestants come from all areas of the broad “accessory” sphere. The majority of Project Accessory’s designers specialize in jewelry, but there are a few contestants in the group with unique specialties. David Grieco from Los Angeles specializes in belts, Adrian Dana in church hats and Nicolina Royale in “leather rock ‘n’ roll accessories” (that’s quite niche if you ask us).

Men Wearing Jewelry: Sexy Or Sleazy?

Supermodel turned mogul Molly Sims, who also has an accessory line, will inhabit Heidi Klum’s dual host/judge role. In an interview with AOL TV, Sims discusses how Accessory is different from its predecessor. “The great challenge is that they had to do handbags, jewelry and shoes. They had to have a point of view, and they had to use raw materials, on a budget — it had to do with aesthetic, style, the actual accessories and how they were made. Like, who’s your girl and where is she going?”

Contestants will be competing for $100,000 from eBay Fashion to start their own line, a feature spread in InStyle and a year of professional runway hair styling courtesy of John Frieda® Precision Foam Color. They’ll have to impress some very impressive judges along the way. In addition to Sims, fashion and accessory designer Kenneth Cole and InStyle editor Ariel Foxman will be regular fixtures on the judging panel. Guest judges already include actress Debra Messing and trendsetter Kelly Osbourne. Lifestyle expert Eva Jeanbart-Lorenzotti will be the contestants’ mentor à la Tim Gunn
