Simone Ashley is coming clean about a skincare faux pas she commits on a daily basis. The Bridgerton star opened up about her go-to makeup routine for date night, raving over products like Armani Beauty’s Lip Powder Long-Lasting Lipstick, Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Brow Wiz, NARS’ Radiant Creamy Concealer, and Rare Beauty’s Warm Wishes Effortless Bronzer Stick. While these products gave her an effortless but sexy glow, it was her unconventional skin prep that caught our attention.

After cleansing with La Mer’s The Energizing Gel Cleanser and Golfaden MD Doctor’s Scrub Exfoliator, Ashley moisturized her face with body lotion from La Roche-Posay. “I use body lotion on my face before I put my makeup on just ‘cause it doesn’t roll,” she explained during a recent episode of Vogue’s YouTube series Beauty Secrets. “You know when you use certain moisturizers and they react to your makeup and it starts rolling? I usually do my makeup when I’m in a rush, so I [don’t have time] for that,” she continued, adding, “When I was a kid, I used hand lotion, now I’ve upgraded to a fancier body lotion.” As a beauty editor, I was shocked. Everyone knows putting body lotion on your face is a skincare sin! It’s like using a 2-in-1 body wash and shampoo! Plus, the skin on your face is far more sensitive than the skin on your body.

Ashley’s reveal prompted me to do some digging. She specifically uses the La Roche-Posay Lipikar Daily Repair Moisturizing Lotion, which works to replenish and provide all-day hydration. It’s packed with shea butter, glycerin, and niacinamide—making it ideal for dry, cracked, and sensitive skin. And, according to the website, it can be used on the face and body. Whew! What a relief. Despite my reservations, I had a feeling this was no ordinary body lotion. I mean, it’s not like she was using a scented body butter, and La Roche-Posay’s brand ethos is all about catering to sensitive skin through dermatology.

While this might work for Ashley, most experts would still recommend sticking to a dedicated facial moisturizer.
