When it comes to people we want giving us makeup tips every day of our lives, Gucci Westman is definitely at the top of the list. The legendary makeup artist is responsible for some of the most iconic makeup looks in NYFW history, so any time we get a chance to see her work in person – especially when it comes to her husband’s – designer David Neville of Rag & Bone – very  own fashion show, we listen closely.

And secrets she had. The look at Rag & Bone was very minimalist yet sexy—“Think Brooke Shields in Blue Lagoon,” Gucci told us. “The skin is very bronzed, but also natural and luminous.”

And the key to getting that natural, luminous skin lies partially in the way the makeup is applied. Gucci used MAC Cream Color Base in Midtone Sepia ($22) as bronzer all over the face for a soft, healthy glow, gently dabbing it straight onto clean skin with a sponge. But the truly genius trick? She’d apply the Cream Color Base to the skin, then dip her sponge into the wonderfully lightweight Vivo Blue Diamond Eye Cream ($100), then use the moisturizer to sheer out and blend the makeup.

The reason for this unusual application method? It doesn’t just dilute the formula to create a gorgeously sheer, non-glittery bronzer—it’s also a great way to fix makeup. “Dipping a sponge in a lightweight moisturizer is a great way to touch up—it helps blend and push everything around a little bit,” she said, demonstrating on one of the willing models. “If you want to refresh your face and don’t want to start over, this is the way to do it!!”

And as if that wasn’t magical enough, the moisturizer ensures that the end result is so radiant that you don’t even need any additional highlighter. “The skin IS the highlight,” Gucci said.

We can’t argue with amazing results like this.
