Kim Kardashian Just Purchased the Rights to an Organic Alternative to Botox
To her credit, Kim Kardashian has not been shy about her use of certain cosmetic enhancers, namely Botox. The reality-TV star (and so much more) is a well-documented user of the fine-line-freezing treatment, but she swiped back at Instagram critics earlier this year when rumors emerged that she was continuing to use the injectable throughout her current pregnancy.
Kim handled the situation straight up, saying, “No, I won’t have any Botox injections during my pregnancy, like the tabloids are claiming. You would have to be really sick to endanger your child like that.” But there might be a little something she’s hiding—and that something may very well be Biotulin, the “organic” Botox-like gel she just purchased the American licensing rights for, according to the Telegraph.
While Botox is administered as a subcutaneous injection, Biotulin goes on in a topical application and claims to smooth wrinkles within an hour. Its main ingredient is spilanthol, a local anesthetic extracted from a plant called acmella oleracea that reduces muscle contractions and relaxes the facial features. The immediate effects will last only for up to a day, but the product’s manufacturers claim that continued use will result in cumulative smoothing effects.
They also promise that just the tiniest amount of spilanthol is enough to completely relax the muscles that lie beneath the treated area, and in clinical trials, a result similar to Botox was reportedly noticed within 60 minutes of application. Michelle Obama, Kate Middleton, and Carla Bruni are all rumored to be fans, so if there’s any truth to that, those recommendations alone would be enough to pique our interest.
Kim snagged the rights to the product in what was reported to be a million-plus-dollar deal, so we can bet that we’ll be seeing her glowing endorsement on social media soon enough. In the meantime, you can purchase Biotulin directly from its German vendor for around $55.
