The average pedicure lasts longer than the average manicure, but sometimes it still isn’t enough. Summer is especially hard on feet—ironic, seeing as summer is when we most tend to show off our toes. No pedicure will ever last forever (sniff), but there are a few things you can do to prevent the premature end of your pedi.
Keep your feet moisturized.
Just as keeping your hands moisturized helps a manicure last longer, keeping your feet in tip-top, well-moisturized shape between pedicures will enable your polish to last longer, and your feet will look better, too. It’s especially important to moisturize your feet and toes after a shower, as water dries out the skin and the area around the nail, which can cause chipping.
Reapply a topcoat.
Because all topcoats wear off in time, refreshing yours every few days post-salon visit helps to prevent chipping—and it’ll also help to keep your polish looking fresh and shiny, like you just got it done.
Use cuticle oil.
Cuticle oil: not just for the cuticles on your fingers. Massage a drop of oil onto each toe each day, or as often as you like, to keep your cuticles healthy and less prone to cracks or irritation. If you’re dedicated (and wearing sandals), you may even want to consider carrying around a purse-sized version to apply throughout the day.
Keep your toes under wraps.
We know—wearing close-toed shoes kind of defeats the purpose of having a pedicure, but wearing flip-flops too often and thereby exposing your toes to heat, sand, dirt, and more contributes to your polish wearing away long before its time. Exposure is the enemy of the pedicure.
