Why You Should Try Eyebrow Threading Class

When our brows need a quick pick-me-up—as in, when a unibrow is on the horizon—tweezing is generally our best alternative, but if you’re a threading fanatic, there’s a good chance that you wish the first-class technique had the same mobility as tweezers. What if you could do it on the go, or at your vanity? Turns out it’s not out of the question after all.

Eyebrow threading classes have been popping up all over the country, and they aren’t only targeted toward professionals. They’re a great tool for women to work the treatment into their homes and their time schedule. No longer do you have to rely on a salon’s timeline to upkeep your brows. We caught up with Ruby Nuno, the owner of L.A.-based Prime Brows, where she teaches clients to master the technique, to discuss this new trend.

“I aim to teach people professional eyebrow threading and educate people on eyebrow threading in general,” says Nuno. “While eyebrow threading is an ancient skill, it is still foreign to many. After the class, students are able to apply their newly acquired skills both on themselves and others.” Granted, most of her students are professional aestheticians, cosmetologists, and makeup artists who want to add the skill to their repertoire, but stay-at-home moms are not out of the ordinary. “Part of the allure of learning eyebrow threading is because essentially all that is necessary to thread eyebrows is a spool of thread. The magic and skill comes from the eyebrow threader,” Nuno says. Whether that skill is used professionally or in the comfort of home is up to the student.

A standard course isn’t time-consuming and won’t break the bank, which makes it attractive to non-professionals. Nuno’s course involves two 4-5 hour sessions that totals $600 and includes a threading starter kit. Similarly priced is NYC Threading, which offers classes all across the Northeast, that teaches one 5-6 hour class for $250 per person. Both classes focus on theory and technique.

“After completing the course, the students will have learned the three different methods of eyebrow threading,” says Nuno. “It’s then up to the student to practice each method and decide which is best suited for them. Mastering eyebrow threading is largely dependent on each person’s dexterity,” she adds. And practice makes perfect: “Students can become highly skilled within a month if they practice routinely,” Nuno says.

Although we’re still a little unsure if we have the natural skills—and steadiness of hand—to pull it off, we’d definitely give it a try, if only to add “master eyebrow threader” to our skill set.
