I recently got re-sized for bras and it was a life-changing experience. It turns out, I’d been wearing entirely the wrong size and my boobs were paying the price! Now that I know what’s what in my 34F world, I need to stock up on a whole new array of bras and bralettes—and rather than do the research myself, I decided to ask real women about the very best bra brands worth shopping.

How, you ask? Instagram. Duh! I put out an ask on my IG Stories and answers poured in from 33 friends, each with recommendations galore on which brands I’d love, which to avoid and what silhouettes in particular were absolutely essential. I also asked a bra expert for her insights to, dare I say, support their claims. Being the kind soul and lover-of-a-well-fitted-bra that I am, I’m now sharing those responses with you.

Best Bra Brands at a Glance

What to Look for in a Bra, According to Experts

When shopping for the best bras, Kimmay Caldwell, an undergarment educator and creator of Bra Confidence & Comfort, says to keep in mind that not every brand is designed for every body. “While many brands do a great job of being more inclusive with sizing, design, and colors, it’s impossible for every brand to support every body need well,” she explains. “For example, if you have a petite band and a full bust, you might look for a brand devoted to that.”

To find the best fitting bras, Caldwell recommends getting fitted by a bra specialist so that you know what cup and band sizes to look our there. She also says to buy from several brands to give yourself some options. “Don’t be alarmed if you wear different sizes in different bras, even from the same brand,” she notes. “This is normal and can happen based on material, cut, or design — just like jeans.”

Aside from fit, you’ll also want to consider your style preference, as some bras have more support, some have less support, some provide full coverage, and some are more revealing. Knowing what type of bra you want can help you get started in your search.

The Most Comfortable Bras in the World Have This 1 Feature

When shopping for any garment, the material is usually the most telling of comfort — but not with bras. According to Caldwell, the most important feature is the fit. “No matter what material it’s made out of, or if it has a wire or not, fit is the most important element to comfort,” she explains. This is where getting properly fitted can come in clutch. Your bra not only does what you want it to do, it also feels so comfy.
