The 9 Coolest Things About Chanel’s Airport-Themed Spring Show

Where models are baggage handlers and the Grand Palais is a terminal.

Models were baggage handlers, and the Grand Palais was transformed into an airport terminal at the hand of Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel‘s Spring 2016 show.

It’s not the first time Lagerfeld ran with a travel motif: The designer followed a similar inspiration for his cruise-themed 2008 show. But this season, guests sat on airport lounge–style seats while models walked the mock—but incredibly realistic—terminal. Even the clothes were aviation inspired, with Chanel luggage and oversize aviators on the runway. Ahead, we break down the nine buzziest details from Chanel’s Paris Fashion Week show.

This is Karl Lagerfeld, after all, so the Grand Palais was transformed into a mock airport terminal, complete with a Chanel Airlines check-in desk, naturally.

Chanel enlisted the best looking baggage-handlers of all time: Male models Baptiste Giabiconi and Brad Kroenig. Guests like Eva Chen were roped off in realistic, airport lounge–style chairs. Brilliant!

Edie Campbell opened the show in a bright tweed jumpsuit and metallic headband, rolling her Chanel luggage down the runway.

Models who didn’t carry luggage were not empty-handed. Instead, they toted a mini bag in the shape of a suitcase. Prepare to see these all over the street-style set next Fashion Week.

Silver headbands and oversize mirrored aviators were two major accessory looks on the Chanel runway.

The aviation theme didn’t stop at the setting: Lagerfeld sent models down the runway dressed in airplane-print clothes.

Lagerfeld pulled Cara Delevingne and Hudson Kroenig (model Brad Kroenig’s super-cute son) onto the runway for his final bow. Hudson was adorably dressed as a pilot.

Chanel muses Vanessa Paradis and Lily-Rose Depp sat front row for the show.

Models walked the runway in chunky-heel, silver-and-white sandals—so prepare to see this look knocked-off everywhere next spring.
