Is Taylor Swift attending the 2025 Golden Globes?
At the time, there’s been no confirmation that Swift is attending the 82nd Golden Globe Awards. However, there’s one clue that she could make a last-minute appearance like she did at the 2024 Golden Globes. Fans noticed that Swift was missing from the audience of the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, January 5, 2025, the same day as the Golden Globes.
Given that Swift has attended 20 Chiefs games since she started dating her boyfriend, Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce, her missing appearance does raise suspicions as to why Swift wasn’t at the Chiefs game against the Broncos. Could it be to attend the Golden Globes in Los Angeles?
Swift also skipped the Chiefs’ game against the Los Angeles Lakers on January 7, 2024—the same day as the 2024 Golden Globes, which she made a surprise appearance at right before the show started last year, so it’s entirely possible that Swift could be attending the Golden Globes last-minute again. Like the 2024 Golden Globes, where Swift’s close friend Emma Stone was nominated and won a Golden Globe for her role in the movie Poor Things, Swift’s best friend, Selena Gomez, is also nominated at the 2025 award show. Gomez is nominated in two categories: Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her performance as Jessi Del Monte in Emilia Perez and Bets Actress in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy for her role as Mabel Mora in Only Murders in the Building.
Though Swift could attend the Golden Globes, it’s safe to say that Kelce, who did play in the Chiefs game against the Broncos in Denver, likely won’t be with her given the time constraints to attend both events.
Host Nikki Glaser confirmed to Variety in January 2025 that Swift will not be a subject a joke because of her respect for the Swiftie fandom. “Wicked is the one that we’re really trying to nail. It has that Eras Tour energy — I want to respect the fandom and not trash it, because as a Swiftie, there is no joke you can make about Taylor Swift that is OK to me,” Glaser said when asked about her opening monologue.
Later in the interview, Glaser explained why she doesn’t plan to joke about Swift “unless it’s a very favorable way.” “She was at the Golden Globes last year — I would have loved for her to be in the audience this year. I’m hoping this turns into a gig that I can do multiple times, and I can perform for her, because I’ve watched her so many times,” she said.
Glaser also revealed that she attended 22 Eras Tour concerts, a lucky number considering Swift’s song “22” from her album Red, which she performs on the tour and during which she gives her hat to an audience member. “It was supposed to be 24, but the Vienna shows were canceled. So it ended up being good that I got that number — 22,” Glaser said.
She also confirmed that she has met Swift but wouldn’t consider themselves friends. “I met her after The Red Tour, but I was not a Swiftie yet. I met her backstage, and she was so normal and nice. It wasn’t just like, pose next to her and don’t make eye contact—we had a moment,” she said. “But I am very happy just staying a fan. I probably like her too much — it would be kind of weird to be friends with me. For the time being, there’s been no attempt for me to meet her. I want it to happen naturally.”
