After two weeks of legal drama, many It Ends With Us and Deadpool & Wolverine fans might be wondering if Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are attending the 82nd Golden Globes. The two are currently embroiled in a lengthy legal battle with It Ends With Us director Justin Baldoni.
Ryan Reynolds is nominated for the cinematic and box office achievement category at this year’s Golden Globes ceremony for producing Deadpool & Wolverine. Just two weeks before, his wife Blake Lively filed a complaint against Justin Baldoni on the grounds of sexual harassment and a retaliatory smear campaign. Baldoni, for his part, sued The New York Times for $250 million over the newspaper’s reported piece about the complaint.
According to multiple entertainment news sites, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds will not attend the 82nd Golden Globes. Deadline first reported that the Deadpool vs. Wolverine actor will not attend alongside his co-star Hugh Jackman. A source told Page Six that the decision to not go was made well in advance before the legal drama.
Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser confirmed that she will not roast the legal battles in her Golden Globes monologue. “I think the Blake Lively–Justin Baldoni thing is such a hot-button thing right now that even a mere mention of it will seem like I could be on the wrong side of things, even though I would never be,” Glaser told Yahoo! Entertainment. “I also don’t want to give his name any — I’m mad I even know his name, to be honest with you, so I don’t need to say it anymore,” she added.
Baldoni accused Reynolds of berating him during a “traumatic” meeting right before filming the movie. Blake Lively claimed that Baldoni was “fat-shaming” her after she gave birth to her fourth child. Baldoni allegedly assured that it was not the case because he had to carry her in one of the scenes and having a back injury, had to “to ensure he could safely perform the lift without injury.” Reynolds allegedly confronted Baldoni about it at their house. “Baldoni, in an effort to avoid further confrontation with Lively and Reynolds and rebuild rapport with his co-star, continued to bend to her will,” his lawsuit states.
