They’re helping out however they can. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are opening their doors to their friends who are affected by the Los Angeles Wildfires.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex live in Montecito, Calif., which is about 90 miles north of Los Angeles. They bought the house in 2020 for $14.65 million and the home is now worth a whopping $29 million, per Zillow. The property includes nine bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, an all-inclusive fitness center, and wellness enclaves.

Over 100,000 Los Angeles residents have evacuated due to the Palisades, Eaton, and Hollywood Hills wildfires. The Palisades and Eaton Fire have consumed at least 10,600 acres in northern Los Angeles County. The fires were caused by a combination of dry conditions and powerful winds and are having a huge effect far beyond the danger zones. 10 people have died because of the fires and 10,000 structures have been destroyed. The Palisades fire is 6% contained, making it the most destructive in L.A. history.
Multiple sites reported that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have welcomed their friends who have evacuated from Los Angeles. On Thursday, January 9, the Sussexes released a statement expressing to help out fire victims with their charity Archewell Foundation.
“In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life,” their statement began, noting that “a state of emergency has been issued,” they wrote on their website.
“If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas,” they added, providing a list of organizations that people can donate to, including chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, which has been a longtime partner of Archewell, Cal Fire, and the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.
The former working Royals also listed out ways everyone can help out those in need. They wrote, “If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating.”
They also encouraged people to donate to the American Red Cross. “Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys & clothing, and other essentials,” they concluded.
Days before the fire, the Sussexes also announced a new Netflix show With Love, Meghan, that will offer a glimpse into their home life. In the show, the Duchess of Sussex invites friends and famous guests where she shares cooking, gardening, and hosting tips.
