Brooke Shields is getting sentimental. On the eve of her memoir release Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old , the actress talked to SHE Media CEO Samantha Skey during a Flow Space event about her life growing up in the industry and becoming CEO of her new hair company Commence.
Samantha Skey asked the star if she still gets nervous when working with big talent, and Brooke gushed about how she always feels humble. “On the way home, I would put my head on the window and put myself and all the movies,” she said. “I love movies, and when it came to meeting movie stars, I was just starstruck. It didn’t match up and people thought I was being disingenuous, but I wasn’t.”
The author has an upcoming role with two mega-talented stars who have been in the business for a very long time. “Just recently I had the opportunity to act opposite to very talented and wonderful women and I don’t get to do that a lot. That’s not the way my career has unfolded where I’m acting opposite of people who are really gonna bring my game up or intimidating to me.” Those stars were revealed to be Glenn Close and Naomi Watts.
“I met them, but Glenn and I are actually cousins, which is weird,” she said laughing. “All my life there had been a precarious relationship with talent.”
Brooke recounted having a tough day on set remembering her lines and doubting herself on her own talent. When she acted out a scene, Glenn had nothing but praise for her. “She put her hands on my shoulders and said, ‘You need to hear this. You blew me away.'” The actress said she never had that kind of support in her life. “We need validation. I’m not ashamed to have needed a nod of approval from Glenn Close.”

She then recalled how Jane Fonda called her out of the blue and Brooke was absolutely shocked. “I was like ‘Why are you calling me? I know your granddaughter, but I don’t really know you.’ And she asked me to go to dinner. I was just gobsmacked. I was in awe of this woman’s experience and she showed her vulnerability to me and she said, ‘I want you to understand. How you’ve maintained the lifestyle you had, I don’t think you’ve touched upon your best work yet.”
“It was so interesting to go from that little girl who was afraid to think I was never talented to being seen and validated,” Brooke concluded. “To feel that way in this era of your life was really great.”
