Barack & Michelle Obama Are Sparking Divorce Rumors After She Made This Major Move
People are thinking that there is trouble in paradise for this presidential family. Barack Obama and Michelle Obama are the subject of several divorce rumors after people noticed the First Lady’s absence.
President Barack Obama attended Jimmy Carter’s funeral solo on Jan. 7 2025, while other former Presidents, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, current President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump all attended with their wives. It’s normally traditional for all living Presidents to attend a former president’s funeral.

She’s also not attending Donald Trump’s inauguration. A statement from the Office of Barack and Michelle Obama said, “Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration.”So, what is going on behind the scenes?

Barack Obama and Michelle Obama are not heading toward a divorce. Though the former First Lady didn’t give a reason to why she isn’t attending the Donald Trump’s inauguration, a source close to her says that she doesn’t want to fake a smile if she does.
Trump’s offending comments towards the Obamas and his history of racism might have impacted her decision to attend. “There’s no overstating her feelings about [Trump]. She’s not one to plaster on a pleasant face and pretend for protocol’s sake,” a source told People. “Michelle doesn’t do anything because it’s expected or it’s protocol or it’s tradition.”
“She served in the public eye and did all the public good that she could for eight years as first lady,” the source says of her fulfilling her official responsibilities in 2017. “You’ll see her when she has a project or cause to promote but she doesn’t feel the need to be a public figure anymore.”
The Becoming author also didn’t attend Jimmy Carter’s funeral due to a scheduling conflict, stating that she was in Hawaii on an extended vacation, according to CNN’s Jeff Zeleny. The same source divulged that after the death of her mother Marian Robinson, the Obamas have been hit heavy with the loss. “It’s been an emotional time for her,” the source says. “The holidays were always a time for family in Hawaii.”
