Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz are actually bestie goals. The two have praised each other about working together on their latest Netflix movie and are dispelling any rumors that they had beef.
Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx both star in Netflix’s latest comedy-thriller Back in Action. The movie focuses on ex-CIA agents Emily and Matt returning to their life of espionage after their cover is blown. The two actors play a couple in the movie, but you can tell that their chemistry is a tight bond. The two have been friends for decades, but were they ever more than friends?
No, Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx never dated. In a “How Well Do They Know Each Other” video with Variety, the two revealed that they’ve known each other since 1993. When she was starring in The Mask with Jim Carrey, the actor introduced him to the cast of In Living Color and told Jamie that she was a big fan. “We were blown away by her presence and who she was,” Jamie gushed about her. The two have previously starred together in Any Given Sunday in 1999 and the 2014 remake of Annie. Back In Action marks Diaz’s return to acting after she retired a decade ago.
Despite rumors that the two had drama on set, the recent press run and fellow crew members have proved that the two’s friendship shines through. “Anyone who was on set will tell you he was the biggest cheerleader and hype man for her, and really for everybody involved, but especially for her,” Back in Action director Seth Gordon told People in an interview on January 18.
When Jamie Foxx recovered from his medical emergency, Cameron went out of her way to support her costar. “She got to return the favor in that way spiritually,” Gordon continued, “It was a very unusual situation to navigate, but it makes a big difference when they have this old friendship, and it’s coming from such a good place.”
Gordon specifically highlighted their friendship would transcend beyond the set and inspired the banter between their characters . “[They were] totally finishing each other’s sentences … and seeing their chemistry and that energy together was really inspiring,” Gordon says. “It made me want a little less action and a little more hanging out, so that they could play. Because whenever we got to do those scenes, it just breathed life into me and the crew.”
Gordon continued, “When you see people just crushing it, it’s inspiring for everybody, right? … So I tried to do that as much as possible, keeping in mind that the word ‘action’ is in the damn title, so we can’t remove too much stuff. But they’re amazing together.”
Diaz said that the “crazy” rumors that they didn’t get along on set made her “really angry. “I really hate all of the things that were being said about our set at the time,” she said on an episode of Molly Sims’ Lipstick on the Rim podcast. “You just want to scream at the top of your lungs, like, ‘What are you talking about?’
“Jamie is the best,” she praised her co-star. “I love that guy so much. He’s such a special person and he’s so talented, so much fun.”
She continued, “The hiccups that happened throughout production are the natural kinds of things that happen, but nothing got delayed other than, obviously, toward the end. And that’s something that is not my place to speak about,” referencing his health emergency.
