US Senate candidate Sam Parker wrote on X, “Deport Selena Gomez” after criticizing her actions. Selena Gomez, who is an American citizen and cannot be deported, clapped back with another post and fans are supporting her every move.

How did Selena Gomez respond to Sean Parker?

In a now-deleted post on her Instagram Stories, Selena Gomez wrote, “Oh, Mr. Parker, Mr. Parker. Thanks for the laugh and the threat.”

The day before her emotional post, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 947 undocumented immigrants, per the BBC. The crackdown was part of President Donald Trump’s central campaign promise of mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. Since taking office on January 20, 2024, Trump has carried out 21 executive actions to overhaul the U.S. immigration system.

The singer has been outspoken about immigration, and she’s produced the Netflix documentary Living Undocumented. Selena Gomez’s father’s family immigrated to the United States from Mexico. She’s previously been open about her family’s experience in an op-ed for Time in 2019. She recounted that her aunt “was the first out of her family to cross the border from Mexico into the U.S. in the back of a truck in the 1970s.” According to the singer, her “grandparents followed” and her “father was born in Texas soon after.”

She continued, “Undocumented immigration is an issue I think about every day, and I never forget how blessed I am to have been born in this country thanks to my family and the grace of circumstance.”

Some netizens have backed up Selena and her actions. Flavor Flav wrote on X, “Team Selena Gomez. Again. That woman is always so brave to share her truth,,, and so many are quick to bully her.” Other fans defended her after people questioned her intentions. One devoted fan wrote, “Selena Gomez ALWAYS cared about this topic. Those weirdos who have to make everything a problem are uneducated and jobless.”
