Taylor Swift is backing up her bestie no matter what. The “Midnights” singer was mentioned in Justin Baldoni’s lawsuit against Blake Lively, and conflicting reports arose about whether the record-breaking artist has taken a step back from all the It Ends With Us drama.
Lively was the first to pursue legal action when she filed a complaint against Baldoni, producer Jamey Heath, and publicists Melissa Nathan and Jennifer Abel on December 31. The New York Times published an article titled “‘We Can Bury Anyone’: Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine” including the allegations of sexual harrassment against the director. In turn, Baldoni filed a lawsuit against the newspaper seeking $40 million in damages, and later sued Lively and Reynolds for $400 million in damages. They have a court date assigned on March 2026.
Swift was briefly mentioned in Baldoni’s lawsuit—with the lawsuit referring her as Lively’s “megacelebrity friend.” Blake Lively offered to rewrite some parts of the script including the famous rooftop scene. According to the lawsuit, “Baldoni felt obliged to text Lively to say that he had liked her pages and hadn’t needed Reynolds and her megacelebrity friend to pressure him.” Baldoni claimed that Swift attended an “intense” confrontation at Lively and Reynolds’ penthouse home in New York City about the script changes.
According to the Daily Mail, Taylor Swift wanted to take a “step back” from her best friend. A source told the gossip outlet, “For the time being she is taking a step back from Blake because she doesn’t want to get tangled in this more than she already has – which is far more than she ever needed to be.”
In his lawsuit, Baldoni also included texts from Lively that call Reynolds and Swift her “dragons” who support her, while she compares herself to the Game of Thrones character Khaleesi. “Her friends also think that Blake’s ‘I’m Khaleesi, and like her, I happen to have dragons’ text to Justin was uncool and unnecessary because she was essentially used as an intimidation tactic,” the source continued. “She was referred to as some kind of pet or possession.”
Another source added, “Taylor shouldn’t even be involved in this at all. She was only going over to visit Blake and Ryan with the understanding that the meeting would be over.”
However, a source told E! News that the Daily Mail’s narrative is completely wrong. “It’s not true,” the source said.
Lively and Swift’s friendship dates back to 2015 when they went to Warner Bros. Movie World theme park in Australia on their day off. They’re so close that Lively and Reynolds feel compelled to go to The Tortured Poets Department singer for their baby names. “We always wait for Taylor to tell us what the child’s name will be,” the Deadpool actor said on Today before the birth of their fourth child. “And I’ll say this, we’re still waiting, so Taylor, let’s maybe start [on that], you know. She’s a prolific writer. I mean, what are we doing here? And lazy’s not a word I’d attach to Taylor.”
