King Charles and Queen Camilla are going to have a nice getaway. The Royal couple is celebrating their 20th anniversary since their wedding, and they’re making a big move.

King Charles married Camilla Parker Bowles at Windsor Guildhall on April 9, 2005, and held their reception at Windsor Castle. The two did not marry in the Church of England because they were both divorcees, but King Charles’ children, Prince Harry and William, and his parents Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were in attendance.

Royal duties for the King have been put on a pause since his cancer diagnosis in early 2024. “His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties,” Buckingham Palace said at the time. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.”

The statement continued: “The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible. His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”

What are King Charles & Queen Camilla’s anniversary plans?

King Charles and Queen Camilla are going to Italy for a state trip in April 2025. The Rome trip will include a series of engagements and a potential audience with Pope Francis at Vatican City. Though they are expected to carry out official duties, they’re planning to celebrate together. A source told The Sun UK, “It is expected that they will mark it privately, if at all.”

Another source said, “The trip falls on their 20th wedding anniversary but the King and Queen are well known and respected for their hard work and duty. I don’t think anyone would expect them to do anything else than carry out a full list of engagements.”

This marks the first international excursion for the couple in 2025. It comes four months after the pair traveled to Australia and Samoa in October 2024. The King had to postpone his New Zealand portion of the trip because of his cancer treatments even though he was cleared to travel by his doctors.

Now, it seems like it’s full speed ahead for a path towards normalcy. “We’re now working on a pretty normal-looking full overseas tour program for next year, which is a high point for us, knowing that we can think in those terms,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson confirmed in a statement to Hello! in October 2024.
