Rapper Kendrick Lamar will be joined on stage during the Super Bowl Halftime Show by singer-songwriter Solána Imani Rowe, known professionally as SZA. Their collaboration, which extends far beyond just a specific event, will continue this summer as they head out on the Grand National Tour together, starting in April 2025. The tour will kick off at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and cover the United States and Canada with multiple shows. It’s slated to go until June.

Apple Music first announced that SZA would be joining Lamar at the Super Bowl Halftime show with a video featuring the two. “What’s up with it? Everything’s smooth. I’m on the field right now… This feels a lot better than what people think, so that’s a must,” Lamar says on the phone, as SZA approaches him from behind. “I haven’t even think about a guest performance,” he continues, before SZA splashes him with a gallon of Gatorade.

SZA herself addressed the upcoming performance without giving much detail during the 67th annual Grammy Awards, saying, “What I can say is he’s worked really hard on it. And I’m so honored to be a part of it and I’m so honored to even know him [Kendrick Lamar] and exist in the same time as someone as brilliant as him.”

Very kind words and two people who have collaborated on more than just this performance have led fans to wonder about their relationship. Are the two a couple? Did Kendrick Lamar and SZA ever date?

Did Kendrick Lamar and SZA ever date?

The answer seems to be no. The two are close friends and frequent collaborators, including “Babylon” from SZA’s 2014 EP Z and “All The Stars” from the 2018 film Black Panther. SZA is also featured in two songs on Lamar’s album GNX, “Gloria” and “Luther.” In total, they have collaborated on seven songs. And if we add to that their upcoming tour, it’s easy to see why people believe these two could be dating.

But that simply doesn’t seem to be the case now—and it doesn’t seem like it has been the case at any point in their relationship. SZA has had some high-profile rumored relationships, including with Drake back in 2009 and Travis Scott in 2023, but she keeps a very low profile when it comes to her personal life and if she’s dating and who she could be dating at the moment remains a mystery.

Lamar, meanwhile, has been a one-woman man for a long time. The rapper is engaged to Whitney Alford, and the two have been together since they were teenagers. The couple shares two children, Uzi and Enoc.

The rapper’s relationship with SZA is more of a siblings-like relationship, with Lamar saying of SZA in the Harper’s Bazaar November 2024 issue that saw her interviewing him, “I’m proud of you. I’m not only proud of your artistry, I’m proud of you in the sense of carrying and respecting who you are and being able to go through emotions and aware of it and say, “Okay, this is me. I can either grow from it or I can put it away and come back to it.” That’s what I get from you. I think you got a good sense of it. Just knocking out the fear of it all.”
