Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs suffered a crushing defeat during Super Bowl LIX, losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 40-22 in a game in which they were scoreless for almost three quarters and never got any real offensive momentum. But fans were still talking about Kelce before, during, and after the game, and it wasn’t because of the usual reasons.

Instead of wondering about Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift, the possibility of an engagement between the two, or Kelce’s feelings about the Super Bowl loss, fans were more concerned about the possibility that Kelce had played his last name in the NFL. That and his hair, which became a topic of conversation yesterday as Kelce showed up to the stadium in a brown Amiri suit, sunglasses, and a very 70s look that included longer hair than he usually sports.

But did Travis Kelce get a hair transplant? Did his hair just grow? Has the Kansas City tight end addressed the speculations? Here’s everything we know.

Did Travis Kelce get a hair transplant?

People certainly seem to think so, but is it true? Kelce, who has sported very short, buzzed hair for most of his career, has, however, grown out his hair before. When Kelce first showed up for training camp in 2024, his hair was longer than usual and throughout the season, fans have commented on his awkward grow-out stage. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes even said on SiriusXM interview last year that Taylor Swift was the reason for the change. “I’ve been trying to get him to grow his hair out and all of a sudden Taylor gets him to do it,” he said.

Despite the rumors, the fact that Kelce has grown out his hair before—in 2016 and 2020—and that he was seen with longer hair this very season seems to indicate there is no hair transplant involved. He just decided to change his hairstyle, likely at the behest of his girlfriend. The internet, however, was having a lot of fun speculating on his hair, perhaps because the game was so lopsided they had to focus on something other than total domination of the Kansas City Chiefs.

“Travis Kelce flew Turkish Hairlines round trip & came back with a Count Dracula widow’s peak. Bro’s hairline got more plugs than a Taylor Swift concert,” someone joked on X. Others went as far as to look through his social media for proof that the hair couldn’t be natural, reinforcing the idea of a visit to Turkey for a hair transplant. “WHERE DID THE HAIR COME FROM KELCE?!?!? BUZZ CUT GUY TURNED CONSTANT HAT GUY NOW HAS FLOW.  HAS TAYLOR SWIFTS PLANE BEEN TO TURKEY RECENTLY??”

However, there were people coming to his defense too.

“i think the craziest thing to come out of today was travis kelce toupee/a trip to turkey allegations ??? unlike *certain* people, my guy can grow his hair out without any help thank you very much,” a fan said.

As for the other big question to come out of the game, it doesn’t seem like Kelce is ready to say goodbye to the game anytime soon. “Hopefully, I’m still playing football. I feel like I’ve got a lot of good football left in me,” he said after the Super Bowl. Doesn’t sound like a guy who wants Super Bowl LIX to be his last game. And considering how badly his team got beaten, it’s hard to blame him for not wanting to go out that way.
