Dave Portnoy has put his two cents in on the Alex Cooper and Alix Earle drama. The Barstool Sports founder made a post reacting to the news that Alix Earle‘s podcast had been dropped from Cooper’s Unwell Network.
On February 25, 2025, Variety also reported that SiriusXM will also no longer sell ads for the show and that the Unwell Network has renounced all rights to her podcast Hot Mess so that Earle can freely explore future opportunities. Earle was one of Cooper’s original signees to Unwell Network alongside Madeline Argy.
The news came after there was speculated tension between Earle and Cooper. Earle didn’t show up to a Super Bowl party that Unwell was hosting even though she was in the area. Earle’s father TJ also brought up drama he had to handle for Earle recently, which he described as a “business situation that was also something else.”
Portnoy was instrumental in Alex Cooper’s success since Call Her Daddy originated as a Barstool original podcast. The podcast was later signed to Spotify and is currently with Sirius XM. So what did he have to say about the situation?
After news broke of Alix Earle’s podcast being dropped, Dave Portnoy posted an Instagram video where it appeared that he called Earle for 22 minutes. He shook his head in a green screen while the “Circle of Life” from The Lion King played in the background. “You can stop tagging me. I know what needs to be done,” he wrote in the caption.
Many fans took to social media to speculate that the Barstool head called her so that he would recruit Earle under his wing. “[Dave Portnoy] is a mastermind if he gets Alix Earle to come to barstool,” one person wrote on X. “Dave about to get revenge for losing Grace,” a fan commented on Portnoy’s Instagram post. It’s not confirmed if Earle would continue her podcast endeavors elsewhere.
However, Portnoy went back to the post to write that he didn’t actually call Earle. “Update – I didn’t call her. I just thought it was funny,” he wrote in a comment. The post was in reference to when Cooper posted a similar video on TikTok when Grace O’Malley left Barstool. The Call Her Daddy host posted a TikTok saying “I know what needs to be done” with the green screen background set to a phone call with O’Malley that lasted for 38 minutes. O’Malley later signed on to Unwell Network.
